Fairs and Festivals in April

India is a fantastic place for travellers where the fairs and festivals that are celebrated with great enthusiasm play a significant role in promoting tourism of India. They offer you an opportunity to experience the glorious culture of India. Each festival is celebrated with zeal by varied groups of people and communities. Among these fairs, April month also brings some colorful fairs and festivals which display the rich culture and ritual of the country through like Baisakhi, Tulip festival , Mahavir Jayanthi and many more. This April, there are various fests where you can have a gala time.

Gudi Padwa, the Maharashtrian New Year, sees huge parades taking place across Mumbai. The biggest one happens in the morning at Girgaum, in south Mumbai. It is dubbed Gudi Padwa in Maharashtr and Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The Gudi is adorned with neem leaves, coconuts, marigold flowers and turmeric. Locals  wears their finest traditional clothing, many dress up to reflect the reign of great warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The parade also features sari-clad women riding motorbikes, and more than 50 floats depicting the culture of the state. A visit to this beautiful festival will enable one collect and cherish memories for lifetime.

Baisakhi or Vaisakhi is a basically a harvest festival which is celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year in the states of Punjab and Haryana. This festival has special importance for Sikhs. It is celebrated with gusto and gaiety especially by them because this day commemorates the formation of Khalsa panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth guru of Sikhism. Being a spiritual festival, people dressed in colorful outfits offer prayers in Gurudwaras on this day. One can scout the lively celebrations and cultural performances on this day. In other parts of country, this festival is known by  various regional names.

Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important religious festivals in Jainism. It is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the twenty-fourth and last Tirthankara of present Avasarpiṇī. The idol of Lord Mahavir is carried out on a chariot, in a procession called Rath Yatra. There are no extravagant celebrations during this festival, rather people engage in some sort of charitable act, pujas and fasting. Many devotees visit temples dedicated to Mahavir to meditate and offer prayers.

A religious Hindu festival observed on the 9th day of the month of Chaitra, Ram Navami is celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal. On this auspicious day, people visit shrines, listen to tales about Ram and chant mantras. Many pilgrims keep fast during the occasion to do the sacred pooja. Ujjain, Ayodhya and Rameshwaram are the three most important places where huge celebrations take place to mark the event of Ram Navami.

It is held on the 14th of April when the people of Punjab celebrates Baisakhi, Bengal celebrates Naba Barsha and Assam celebrates Bihu. The main feature of this festival is Sadya, a feast made by the women of the house. Many other dishes are made on this day using mangoes, jackfruits and pumpkins. It is a New Year celebration, and visiting of shrines during the occasion is considered to have special importance.

Easter also called Pascha or resurrection Sunday, is the most festive event of the Christians celebrated all over the world. It is a festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death after hir burial following his crucifixion.

The holy week of Easter begins on a Palm Sunday and Good Friday . It is believed by the followers that Jesus Christ and rose to glory from his grave after defeating death. It happened on a Sunday, and so we celebrate Easter on a Sunday.

Easter is celebrated all over India, although some states celebrate it with great enthusiasm like Goa, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram.
